Kirsten Flaherty resides in New York while working as an artist and printmaker. Flaherty focuses primarily in printmaking and her work is created in reaction to the effects our civilization has on various ecological communities.

Flaherty's etchings examine the imprint that economic development has left on the ecosphere as well as the innocents that are impacted. Some of the animals depicted in these etchings are critically endangered and are represented against a backdrop of stark letters and numbers from stock quotes of corporations that have had devastating effects on our global ecological community.

In her most recent series of mezzotints, the artist has focused on depicting pit bulls in the hope to inspire a more positive view of a nationally misunderstood animal. These portraits seek to present pit bulls that are playful and trustworthy, and further encourage reform of the cultural stigma that causes some to become uneasy when a pit bull approaches.

Her works have been exhibited throughout the United States as well as internationally including the Czech Republic, Peru, Israel, and Italy. Additionally, Kirsten Flaherty is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Society of Etchers and has been dedicated to presenting exhibitions that showcase varying visions through techniques in etching, monotype, silkscreen and other printmaking processes, with the overall intention of celebrating the venerable art of print.
